Swedish sculptor Lena Kriström adds a bit of heat to Stockholm’s coolest bar with the help of human profiles and vibrating lines. “Northernmost Attractions” is open to Stockholmers and visitors from further afield up until May 2012.
People, relationships and feelings are the main sources of Lena Kriström’s inspiration. Her medium is various different kinds of stone and she has been working with ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi since 1993, producing sculptures from ice and snow. Lena Kriström’s art is shown at galleries across Sweden and several of her works are on public display in various municipalities and counties.
“Ice is a magical material to work with. It has more dimensions than many other types of material and is extremely beautiful, with its constantly changing and multifaceted shades of light. Over the years I’ve developed the way I express my art to enable me to use the amazing possibilities that ice has to offer, and I would really love to see ice gaining more respect as an artistic working material,” says Lena Kriström.
“My intention with ICEBAR STOCKHOLM is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere using human profiles in repeated patterns. The guests will be able to explore the sculptures themselves, examine them from various angles and discover lines and shapes that are less obvious,” continues Lena.
ICEBAR STOCKHOLM by ICEHOTEL is the world’s first permanent ice bar, open 365 days a year, with a constant indoor temperature of minus five degrees. ICEBAR STOCKHOLM is rebuilt every year and all the interior décor, including the tables, walls, seating and bar, is replaced with new ice from the River Torne in Jukkasjärvi.
“This is the first time we’ve built an ICEBAR by ICEHOTEL using personal art. Summer is our high season and it’s very exciting to be able to offer a highly artistic ice experience. I believe that Lena Kriström’s artistic expression will speak to both our Swedish and our foreign guests,” says Joachim Kilman, Icebar Manager.
ICEBAR by ICEHOTEL conveys the essence of ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi and Sweden’s Arctic Lapland, wherever you are in the world. You can now find an ICEBAR by ICEHOTEL in London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Tokyo.www.icehotel.com/icebar
In 2002, the world’s first permanent ice bar was opened at Nordic Sea Hotel in Stockholm. ICEBAR STOCKHOLM by ICEHOTEL offers visitors a unique ice experience from Lapland, right in the heart of central Stockholm. All the furnishings, including the glasses, are made from 100% pure, crystal-clear ice from the River Torne, and the indoor temperature remains a constant minus five degrees all year round. Guests are advised to prebook their visit, as ICEBAR STOCKHOLM can take a maximum of 60 guests at a time.
