ABSOLUT ICEBAR in Stockholm is undergoing a transformation. Ice designers and ice sculptors have converted Stockholm’s coolest bar into an austere industrial setting, complete with luminous ice drinks, frosty cogwheels and icy pipes. Twice a year, the interior of ABSOLUT ICEBAR is replaced with fresh, crystal-clear ice from the River Torne in Jukkasjärvi. A team of ice designers and ice sculptors create works of art, furniture and drinking glasses by hand from colossal blocks of ice. 

“FACTORY is a perfect representation of the innovative ABSOLUT ICEBAR spirit,” explains Astrid Lundquist, Head of Communication at ABSOLUT ICEBAR. “The new ice design is even more interactive, treating guests to an experience for all the senses.”  

The inspiration for FACTORY comes from the industrial environments of Jukkasjärvi in the Arctic Circle and the southern Swedish town of Åhus, where ABSOLUT is distilled. Every year, 6,000 tonnes of ice are stored at an enormous cold storage facility in Jukkasjärvi. Guests at ABSOLUT ICEBAR FACTORY will be able to watch CCTV images from the “ice factory” in Jukkasjärvi, giving them a unique glimpse behind the scenes.

The music at ABSOLUT ICEBAR has been specially mixed to suit the theme. Progressive electro is combined with industrial sounds and mechanical rhythms. A conveyor belt of vodka served in ice glasses adds to the heavy-duty feel.

“The new design is an extraordinary social experience,” says Ebba Larsson, bar manager at ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM. “Whether you’re from Stockholm or visiting from elsewhere in the world, you’re bound to be pleasantly surprised by the FACTORY theme.”

ABSOLUT ICEBAR was an instant success when the original ice bar was created in 1993 in Jukkasjärvi. The world’s first permanent ice bar opened in 2002 at Nordic Sea Hotel in Stockholm, with its year-round indoor temperature of -5°C.
