    Before Globen was completed in 1989, not many people could grasp the effect this new building would have on the city skyline. Today, Globen is as much of an accepted part of Stockholm’s profile as the City Hall or the Royal Palace. Globen is the world’s largest spherical building, measuring 110 metres in diameter. It’s Sweden’s largest arena for events. During the summer months, guided tours are available.

  • Kulturhuset

    At the heart of the city is the cultural centre known as Kulturhuset. It is a place that really lives up to its name, with exhibitions, seminars, libraries, theatre productions and restaurants. Kulturhuset is a work of art in itself. It was designed by architect Peter Celsing in 1974. The building’s open glass façade is perfect for anyone who wants to watch the world go by on the Sergels Torg, the square below.

  • Nordiska Museet

    Nordiska Museet towers over Stockholm like a magnificent castle. The original plan was for the building to be four times the size it is now, but the final result is no less impressive at 153 metres long and with an imposing main hall. The museum was inaugurated in 1907 and is Sweden’s largest museum of cultural history. The exhibitions on display at the museum often feature Swedish traditions and customs. The collections here contain over 1.5 million objects.

  • Skogskyrkogården (The Woodland Cemetery)

    The father of functionalism, Gunnar Asplund, with colleague Sigurd Lewerentz created this cemetary landscape (1919-1940), inscribed on the World Heritage list in 1994. The chapel close to the entrance shows decorations by great Swedish artists from the early 20th century, among them Sven X:et Erixson and Bror Hjort. Subway to Skogskyrkogården.
