Gamla Stan’s main street, Västerlånggatan, offers a relatively standardised selection of tourist shops. However, there are a number of building facades of cultural and historic interest. For a more interesting selection, try Österlånggatan. You’ll find a diverse and fascinating selection of restaurants and boutiques.
If you’re looking for rather more exclusive fashion and design, try Biblioteksgatan, which runs from Stureplan to Norrmalmstorg. The southwest part of the Östermalm district is a shopping hub. This is where you’ll find major international names like Hugo Boss, Max Mara and Gucci.
Just one block from Nordic Sea Hotel you’ll find the main shopping street, with everything from established Swedish chains like H&M to smaller, more exclusive boutiques and major department stores like PUB and Åhléns. There is something for all tastes here.
Short for South of Folkungagatan, SoFo, has no exact boundaries, but go south from Medborgar-platsen and take a left on the third cross-street after Folkungagatan and you’ll quickly get a feel for where it begins and ends. Stockholm designers went DIY-crazy a couple years ago, with all the creators suddenly opening their own shops. www.sofo.se
