The ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM is opening the doors to its brand new ice interior, created by Mark Armstrong and Mikael Nilsson of the ICEHOTEL. The design theme for winter 2007-2008 is ‘under construction’.

This winter’s design has a subtle industrial feel. The ‘construction site’ created entirely from the pure, clear ice of the Torne River gives a somewhat surreal impression. Mark and his team of specialists created the ‘under construction’ theme in the interior structure itself and in features such as beams and signposts. The bar contains a two metre tall Absolut Vodka bottle sculpted from pillars of ice, and visitors can admire the giant crane hook while sipping a refreshing ice cocktail from the new cocktail menu.

This year’s design was created by Mark Armstrong and Mikael Nilsson. Mark studied architecture and design in Oxford and has worked in various aspects of design and construction for the ICEHOTEL for the last seven years. Mikael has worked for the ICEHOTEL since 1999 and is a specialist in translating computer graphics into snow and ice, with the help of special machinery adapted to this unique material. Together, they have created an unforgettable winter experience in the very heart of Stockholm.

“The ‘under construction’ theme suits us perfectly at this moment in time, since we’re planning to extend the ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM in 2008. After five years, interest in the bar is greater than ever, so we have developed exciting new plans for next year,” says Anders Johansson, CEO of Nordic Hotels in Stockholm AB.

The new theme has inspired a refreshing cocktail that goes by the name ABSOLUT UNDER CONSTRUCTION and contains the following ingredients:
ABSOLUT RASPBERRY
Peach liqueur
Elderflower cordial
Passion fruit
